Deterioration of Paranaque City

            The city of Paranaque located in Metro Manila is a city known for having problems. As a citizen of this city, I have come face to face with the inadequacies of the city that plagues its citizens and passerbys of the city. As a city in Metro Manila, it is a given that the traffic is congested, although I could say it is much worse in the city of Paranaque. The access road of Merville that connects the city to SLEX from different barangays and nearby cities. It takes almost an hour for a few kilometers of road with how terrible the traffic is. The reason for this heavy traffic is bottle-necking of roads and poor urban design of the area. The establishments are placed where roads have only one lane and as a result, the road cannot accommodate the vehicles.

             Another problem of the city is the public transportation. The demand for public transportation is greater than the public transport units and this causes a deficit of public transport for its citizens. A functional city has to have an efficient public transportation system to transport people and goods. The city of Paranaque lacks this due to inadequate public transport units in the city. 

            Every city has its problems and it's easy to spot them in your home city. As deteriorated a city is, there is always a way to fix it. As designers, we must address these problems to give its citizens a sustainable approach in living in a sustainable city.
